Biographical Statement

John Silver is a Regional English Language Officer with the U.S. Department of State, currently serving at the U.S. Mission to Türkiye. John has also served in Dakar, Washington DC, Kyiv, Astana. Prior to working with the State Department, John was a Senior English Language Fellow in Ukraine, India, Afghanistan and Russia, and a Soros Senior Teaching Fellow in Azerbaijan and Mongolia. John also served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Kazakhstan from 1994-1996. John holds a bachelor’s degree in literature from San Diego State University and is a graduate of the School for International Training’s Master of Arts in Teaching Program.  A focus of John’s work in Ukraine, Kazakhstan and Türkiye has been the development of English for Media Literacy programs for teachers, students, and university curricula.
